Major advances registered at OBS Winter
FURTHER causes for encouragement were forthcoming at the OBS January Winter Mixed Sale in Ocala, Florida, as the two-day auction concluded its two-day run on Wednesday with major upturns across-the-board.
The average and median each made significant advances during the sale's two-day run, rising 35.5 and 58 per cent to $7,711 and $4,500. The aggregate increased by 46 per cent to $2,275,000 for 286 horses sold. In another positive development, the clearance rate rose from 67 per cent to 69 per cent.
Leading American first-season stallion Congrats, the sire of Tuesday's $100,000-topping weanling, was again to the fore during the open session on Wednesday, this time as the covering sire of the day's top lot, Trisha.
Michael Sucher purchased the unraced daughter of Forest Camp from the Summerfield sales agency for $47,000. The four-year-old is out of minor stakes winner Trisha Runs.
Wednesday's session saw 191 horses sell for a total of $916,600, a rise of 26 per cent from the corresponding session in 2010. The average rose 28 per cent to $4,799 while the median doubled to $3,000.
