Captain Gerrard to stand at Mickley Stud

CAPTAIN GERRARD, winner of the Palace House Stakes at three and the Cornwallis Stakes as a juvenile, has been sold to stand at Mickley Stud in a dealbrokered by Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock. He will stand for a fee of £3,500 in 2010 and is likely to shuttle to Australia in the second half of the year.

The Bryan Smart-trained son of Oasis Dream was campaigned mainly over the minimum trip, and he was also fourth in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. He is the winner of six races, five of which were as a two-year-old.

He is a half-brother to Saturn, who finished fifth in the 2,000 Guineas and then fourth in the Irish equivalent, before continuing his racing career in Hong Kong where he competedat the top level from 1m to 1m4f.

Oasis Dream now commands a fee of £65,000 as his progeny continue to impress, including Aqlaam, Monitor Closely and Midday this year, with top juvenile Arcano and Showcasing to look forward to heading into their classic season.

Richard Kent, owner of Mickley Stud, said: "We have been looking for some time for a stallion to join our line up who could be a good source of two-year-old speed and Captain Gerrard fits the bill perfectly.

"He is the fastest son of the brilliant Oasis Dream to stand at stud and, as a good-looking five-time winning juvenile, he should have great appeal to any commercial breeder."
