Frozen Power retired to Ballyhane Stud

BALLYHANE Stud has acquired its second new stallion for the 2012 season: German 2,000 Guineas winner Frozen Power, who will cover his first book of mares alongside fellow recent addition Roderic O'Connor at the County Carlow operation next year.

A son of leading young Juddmonte sire Oasis Dream, Frozen Power was bred by Rathbarry Stud out of the Listed-placed Royal Academy mare Musical Treat, also dam of Anglo-Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Finsceal Beo.

John Ferguson bought Frozen Power for 500,000gns at Book 1 of the 2008 Tattersalls October yearling sale and the colt entered training with Saeed Bin Suroor for Godolphin.

Frozen Power won three races at two, including the Listed Prix de la Huderie, plus the Meydan Classic early in his three-year-old season before being switched to Mahmood Al Zarooni.

For Al Zarooni, Frozen Power was a comfortable winner of last year's German 2,000 Guineas before finishing a fair fifth behind Dick Turpin in the Prix Jean Prat.

He retires with a record of five wins and two second placings from 18 starts for prize-money of nearly £264,000.

Frozen Power's stud fee has been set at €4,500 and his book will be limited to 125 mares. He joins Arakan, Captain Rio, Dandy Man, Majestic Missile and Roderic O'Connor on the Ballyhane roster.
