Captain Gerrard to shuttle to Australia

GROUP 3-winning sprinter Captain Gerrard, currently covering his first book of mares at Mickley Stud in Shropshire, has been secured for stallion duties by Lindsay Park Stud in South Australia.

Captain Gerrard will become one of the first sons of high-flying young Juddmonte sire Oasis Dream to stand in the southern hemisphere  when he shuttles to Australia for the firsttime later this year.

His first Australian fee has been set at A$8,800 (£5,360, €6,163), and a statement said that he "will continue to shuttle to and from Lindsay Park Stud".

A 130,000gns yearling purchase by his trainer Bryan Smart, Captain Gerrard was a tough and high-class two-year-old, running ten times and winning five races, including the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes.

At three he won the Palace House Stakes, and his best performance last year at four came when beaten into fourth in the King's Stand Stakes.

Out of the Soviet Star mare Delphinus, he is a half-brother to high-class Saturn from the further family of Group 1 winners Eva Luna, Intense Focus and Soldier Of Fortune.

Lindsay Park Stud managing director said: "We are extremely pleased to be standing a well-performed son of Oasis Dream, who is considered by many as the next big thing in the northern hemisphere.

"Rodney Rae, Thoroughbred Racing Bureau principal, sourced and purchased Captain Gerrard from the UK in the belief that he is an ideal horse suited to Australian conditions.

"We are excited to be involved with Rodney in this venture and hopefully this marks the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between the two companies."
