Pearl Of Love off the mark in Italy

THE Raffaele Biondi-trained Collesano broke his maiden at the second time of asking at Florence this afternoon, becoming the first winner by his late sire Pearl Of Love in the process.

Bred by Alfredo di Gesaro out of the 10-year-old Idris mare Mother's Hope, Collesano was purchased by his owner Antonino Bosco at last year's SGA sales for €20,000.

Mother's Hope is a half-sister to Treasure Hope, who was trained by Jim Bolger to win the Group 2 Premio Regina Elena at the Capannelle in 1992.

Pearl Of Love, a winner of the Chesham Stakes, Futurity Stakes and Gran Criterium at two, retired to Oak Lodge Stud in County Kildare at a fee of €5,000.

The son of Peintre Celebre covered 70 mares in his first season at stud in 2006. He had almost completed covering his first book of mares at Heytesbury Stud in Australia later that year, when he died from colic.
