Kutub recruited to Batsford Stud roster

BATSFORD Stud in Glucestershire has a second new recruit for the 2012 season: triple Group 1 winner Kutub, who moves from Clongiffen Stud in County Meath where he has been on duty for the past four seasons.

Earlier this year, Batsford acquired the services of another Shadwell stallion in Derby hero Erhaab. The stud's roster is completed by Kadastrof and Pasternak.

Bred by Stackallan and Airlie Studs, Kutub was a 220,000gns yearling buy at the 1998 Houghton sales. He is by the late Sadler's Wells stallion In The Wings, whose top jumps progeny include Inglis Drever, Landing Light and Westender.

Winged Love is also a son of In The Wings and he has sired Bostons Angel and Twist Magic.

Kutub, a three-parts brother to Listed winner In The Limelight from the family of Coronation Stakes heroineShake The Yoke, won the Group 2 Prix Noailles and finished second in the Prix Lupin for Freddy Head before being switched to Saeed Bin Suroor, for whom he won the Grosser Dallmayr Preis, the Preis von Europa and Gran Premio del Jockey Club.

Originally retired to the Haras du Thenney in France, Kutub moved to Clongiffen in 2007. His best performer on the Flat is Superstition, who finished third to subsequent Arc winner Danedream in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin in July, and he has a fine flagbearer over jumps in the shape of David Pipe's promising novice chaser Notus De La Tour.

Kutub's 2012 fee has been set at £2,000.
