Nickname brother upsets Meandre in La Coupe

La Coupe (Group 3, 4yo+) Longchamp, 1m2f

Winner: No Risk At All

5yo ch h My Risk - Newness (Simply Great)

NO RISK AT ALL, who belied big odds to finish only one and three quarters of a length behind Golden Lilac when fourth in the Prix d'Ispahan last month, showed that performance was no fluke by beating last year's Grand Prix de Paris winner Meandre (Slickly) to win Monday's La Coupe at Longchamp.

The ground at Longchamp was soft and No Risk At All is proving a specialist in bottomless going, having won the Prix Isonomy at two and the Prix Omnium at three on heavy as well as the Prix Tantieme at Saint-Cloud on very soft last year at four.

No Risk At All is the best Flat performer by Haras de Victot stallion My Risk, a son of Take Risks who won four Group 3 contests in France, all on soft ground.

My Risk is making a promising start with his early jumps progeny, who include the Gary Moore-trained Dovecote Novices' Hurdle winner Sire De Grugy.

Sylvia Wildenstein bred No Risk At All out of the Simply Great mare Newness, a Listed chase winner at Auteuil who proved a fine broodmare.

Newness produced eight winners from ten foals headed by the top-class chaser Nickname and the useful French jumpers Narkis, N'Avoue Jamais and Nom D'Une Pipe, as well as the Prix de Diane fifth New Saga.

N'Avoue Jamais has picked up the baton from her dam, producing Flat Listed winner Nickelle and Listed-winning jumper N'Oublie Jamais.
