Master Minded answers  in the Tingle Creek

AFTER all the discussion about riding plans through the week prior to race, Master Minded let his ability do the talking in Sandown's Tingle Creek on Saturday.

Putting in a faultless jumping round under champion jockey AP McCoy, the son of Nikos, on his first start of the 2008-09 season, reminded us just what a superb racehorse he is as he went clear after jumping the last to win the Grade 1 event by ten lengths. He made all and the only worry throughout the race was the loose horse who was upsides the 2008 Champion Chaser throughout the race.

After the race McCoy said: "He deserves his rating. Obviously Moscow Flyer's the best two mile chaser I've ever seen and though this guy hasn't achieved as much yet, it's only a matter of time. He's a good traveller, he's a good jumper and we spent the whole race worrying about the loose horse.

"He's a very good horse. I'm very lucky to be allowed to ride him, to be fair I think anyone could have ridden him, even Ruby (Walsh) and he's only half-fit - in fact I'm surprised he didn't try to."

Out of Haute Tension, a daughter of leading French broodmare sire Garde Royale, Master Minded is a half-brother to Hautclan, the winner of three races over three miles and two and a half miles in the UK, and Good Spirit, who won three races in France before transferring to the UK where he won over two miles last year. Master Minded's brother Positive Thinking won three times at Auteuil.

The chaser's second dam, La Vedrelle, is granddam of Heros Fatal, winner of the 2000 Cesarewitch and over £180,000 in prize-money.

Master Minded is the best NH performer by former French sire Nikos whose other top-class NH performers include Cenkos, Eric's Charm (who finishedthird in the later  London Marathon at Sandown on Saturday), Encore Un Peu and Ballysicyos. He also produced a Group 1 winner on the Flat - Nononito, winner of the Prix du Cadran in 1996.
