Four mares scanned in foal to Newsells' Equiano

NEWSELLS Park Stud's new recruit, Equiano, has had his first four mares scanned in foal.

Among the mares confirmed pregnant to last season's King Stand Stakes winner are Listed winner Clifton Dancer and the Group-placed Dream Day, whose first foal by Mount Nelson realised 58,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sale last year.

"We're delighted that Equiano has got his first four mares in foal," said Julian Dollar, general manager of Newsells Park Stud.

"He had already got his earlier test mares in foal, but it's obviously more pleasing to get his first ‘proper' mares in foal too. Equiano is being really well supported by breeders in his first season.

"In the same way that we supported Mount Nelson strongly with good mares, Newsells Park is intenton giving Equiano every opportunity at stud and are sending him a large number of stakes performing and producing mares."

Equiano is one of only two horses in 75 years to win two renewals of the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. The son of Acclamation retired as the winner of seven races and is standing his first season for £8,000.
