Newsells land a bonus a week after paying one out

WHAT goes around came around for Newsells Park Stud at Pontefract when the stud landed one of two £10,000 Racing Post Yearling Bonuses.

The Royston operation offers its own bonus incentive to buyers of  its yearlings and paid out £10,000 at Lingfield last week to the connections of Miss Work Of Art, a first winner for new sire Dutch Art and also the first RPYB winner in Britain in 2011.

The Newsells owned three-year-old Florestans Match, a daughter of Medicean, landed a bonus when winning a six-furlong maiden. She was offered by Newsells at Doncaster last year but was not sold at £28,000.

Newsells racing manager Gary Coffey said: "That is very pleasing and she deserved to win a race. She ran into some very smart fillies last year and she was unlucky not to win at two. Ralph (Beckett) has been pleased with her this spring and we thought six furlongs at Pontefract was a nice place to start her off. I will discus plans with Ralph but we could step her up to seven furlongs. She liked the good to firm ground - she has a very keen action."

The other Pontefract bonus winner came when three-year-old gelding Halfsin, by Haafhd, landed a 10-furlong median auction.

Halfsin runs for owner Giuliano Manfredini and was bought as a yearling by his trainer Marco Botti for 18,000gns at Tattersalls Book 2 when consigned by Kildaragh Stud.
