Freshman Thousand Words sires third winner

RATHASKER Stud's freshman sire Thousand Words was represented by his third winner on Tuesday when Top Notch Tonto took the opening 5f maiden at Beverley.

The Ian McInnes-trained gelding had shown ability earlier this month when fourth at 100/1 on his debut over course and distance, and progressed again to score by a-length-and-a-half from Pearl Noir.

Bred in Ireland by Seamus Finucane, Top Notch Tonto was a bargain €3,000 Tattersalls Ireland September purchase by his trainer. He is a half-brother to 6f-1m winner Kardyl's Hope and a multiple winner in Greece, and out of 11-time scorer Elite Hope, by MomentOf Hope.

His success brings Thousand Word's tally to three winners from six runners following the earlier wins of Lyric Ace, a winner at Leicester and Kempton, and Caro in Russia. The Group 3-winning son of Dansili stands at RathaskerStud for €4,000.

Thousand Words has been cut by Stan James into 40/1 from 100/1 to be leading first-season sire by number of individual winners in Britain and Ireland up to the end of the turf Flat season. New Approach remains the favourite at 11/10.
