New top lot as Shadwell strike for Pivotal filly

A BARRONSTOWN Stud-consigned daughter of Pivotal and the Listed-winning Sadler's Wells mare Briolette (282) became the new top lot at the Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling sale when selling for 650,000gns to Angus Gold on behalf of Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell racing operation.

The filly is the second foal out of Briolette, a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Pilsudski, from the family of habitual Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe runner-up Youmzain and Creachadoir.

Briolette's first foal, a Danehill Dancer colt, was sold at this sale last year to Robert Ogden for 500,000gns.  Now named Point North, he is in training with Jeremy Noseda.

The 650,000gns price tag matches the figure given for last year's sale-toppers, a pair of Montjeu colts.

Gold and the Shadwell operation were also on the mark for Granham Farm's Cape Cross half-sister to Aqlaam (275), who cost 300,000gns, and the Jamie Railton-consigned son of Shamardal and German Group 1 scorer Borgia (274), who was sold for 230,000gns.

Meanwhile, another offering by Pivotal, a half-brother to high-class Fantasia (269), was knocked down to Michael Goodbody for 450,000gns.

A disappointment was the withdrawal of lot 272, a three-parts brother to George Washington by Danehill Dancer. But buyers can still look forward to the only yearling sired by George Washington, a filly offered by Glidawn Stud (405), later on today.
