New jumps ambassador for sire Muhtathir

MUHTHATHIR, a Shadwell-owned resident of the Haras du Mezeray in Normandy, could have a future jumps star on his stud record in the shape of Twinlight.

Twinlight capitalised on the fall of long-time leader Chaperoned and second Fearless Falcon at the second-last obstacle to run out the winner of the Grade 3 Wetherbys Ireland GSB Hurdle for four-year-olds at Fairyhouse on Tuesday.

Muhtathir, a Prix Jacques le Marois-winning son of Elmaamul, has done a fine job at stud in France, siring Man o' War Stakes and dual Hong Kong Vase winner Doctor Dino, Prix de l'Opera winner and 3,400,000gns broodmare buy Satwa Queen, and Beverly D Stakes scorer Mauralakana.

The Willie Mullins-trained Twinlight is not the first of Muhtathir's progeny to excel over jumps: Kruguyrova won the Kingmaker Novices' Chase and ran second in the Arkle; Silver Jaro scored in the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle at Cheltenham; and Mirage Dore has won five races and finished second in the Coral Cup at the festival.

Twinlight, who was making his Irish debut at Fairyhouse having finished third in a Grade 1 three-year-old hurdle at Auteuil in November, is out of the Big Shuffle mare Fairlight and is a half-brother to Flat Listed-placed pair Fair Dream and Fairhope.

Fairlight ran second in a Group 2 over 6f at Baden-Baden at two and is a half-sister to Fenix, a smart hurdler for Lucy Wadham.
