New international hit
for More Than Ready
VINERY shuttler More Than Ready stamped himself as a truly international sire on Saturday when providing the winner of the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate at Kenilworth, Gimmethegreenlight.
The Australian-bred colt swooped late to land the prestigious South African mile event by half-a-length from Variety Club, a son of Clive Brittain's Prix de l'Abbaye winner Var.
Gimmethegreenlight is the ninth Group/Grade 1 winner by More Than Ready, whose stud record includes Australian stars such as Sebring and More Joyous and top-class American performers Buster's Ready and Regally Ready.
The son of Southern Halo, who was successful in the 2000 Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes, stands the northern hemisphere season at Vinery in Kentucky for $60,000 and the southern hemisphere season for A$99,000.
A A$155,000 purchase by Hassen Adams at the 2009 Magic Millions Weanling Sale, Gimmethegreenlight is the fourth foal out of the winning Canny Lad mare Yes She Can Cancan, also the dam of Listed-winning sprinter Ofcourseican.
