New intake begin Darley Flying Start course

THIS year's group of 12 Darley Flying Start trainees arrived at Kildangan Stud in Ireland on Monday to commence their two-year course.

The trainees, who represent seven nationalities, are Katherine Williams, John Jessie, Will Mayer, Ludovic Cornuel, Veer Tomar, Victoria Leonard, Jennifer Zhou, Bernard Condren, Scott Calder, Michael Wilson, Chris Armstrong and Jenny Barnett.

They were welcomed during a lunch in Kildangan House before embarking on induction training in the new Darley Flying Start training facility.

They also enjoyed visits to Ragusa, Old Connell and Blackhall Studs, and started their Equine Anatomy and Physiology module during the past week. Theywill remain at Kildangan until October 30 when they will switch to Newmarket.

Jenny Barnett, from Co. Down, described the week by saying: "Arriving at historic Kildangan on day one of my Flying Start adventure is simply a dream come true.

"Each one of us offers a completely diverse set of experiences, cultures and backgrounds but it has soon become clear that what we have in common transcends these issues - a love and passion for the thoroughbred industry."

On the same day, the 2008 trainees arrived in the Hunter Valley, Australia, to commence the second year of their course.
