New Grade 1 winner for Arazi stallion Congaree

Hollywood Park: Shoemaker Mile Stakes (Grade 1), turf

JERANIMO (6 h Congaree - Jera by Jeblar)

Bred by Brylynn Farm Inc in US

SETTLED at the rear of the field by Garrett Gomez, the Michael Pender-trained Jeranimo flew home to land the Shoemaker Mile and become the second Grade 1 winner for New York stallion Congaree.

Congaree was represented by his first Grade 1 winner last December when Killer Moves won the Hollywood Starlet Stakes.

The best runner produced by the outstanding two-year-old Arazi, Congaree won 12 of 21 starts including the Swaps Stakes, Hollywood Gold Cup and Carter Handicap.

Congaree retired to Adena Springs in Kentucky in 2005 but was transferred in 2010 to Highcliff Farm in New York, where he stands for $7,500.

From five crops of racing age, Congaree is the sire of 11 stakes winners including Irish filly Maoineach, winner of the Group 3 Go And Go Round Tower Stakes for Jim Bolger.

Purchased for $50,000 by Quarter Pole Enterprises at the OBS August Sale, Jeranimo was resold at Barretts as a two-year-old for $70,000 to Rick Taylor. He is a half-brother to the stakes-placed pair Tizthen and Wealthy Aviator and out of American Listed winner Jera.
