New bonus system in time for Perth sale

THE four-day Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale begins on Wednesday at Belmont Park with news from Racing & Wagering Western Australia of the new bonus system called Westspeed Extra.

Owners of yearlings foaled in the 2009 season will be given the option of paying an additional nomination fee of A$1,100 to increase the Westspeed owners bonus payable on all prime metropolitan wins from A$15,000 to A$22,500.

RWWA chief executive Richard Burt said: "Westspeed Extra will provide the owner of a Westspeed eligible horse the opportunity to race for prize-money, including Westspeed bonus, of A$51,750 in each open two- and three-year-old event throughout that horse's career."

Magic Millions managing director David Chester said: "This announcement should give local buyers added incentive to invest in yearlings at this week's sales.

"We have an outstanding line up of yearlings - both WA bred and interstaters - for this year's popular Perth Yearling Sale."

"I've inspected a number of yearlings who wouldn't be out of place at any sale in the Southern Hemisphere."

A total of 686 lots are catalogued for the sale, which last year comprised 630 lots and was topped by the first lot, a filly by More Than Ready from Oaklands Park Stud who sold for A$230,000 to BC3 Thoroughbreds.
