National Stakes winner Pathfork set for US debut
PATHFORK, saddled by Jessica Harrington to win the 2010 National Stakes, has been entered to make his American racing debut in Saturday's Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes over 1m on the Santa Anita Turf.
The son of Distorted Humor raced only once last year, when a distant seventh behind Frankel in his 2,000 Guineas demolition.
Pathfork is now trained by John Sadler - best known for his success with the likes of Sidney's Candy, Twirling Candy and Zazu - and will be partnered on Saturday by Joel Rosario.
Stallion masters will have a keen eye on Pathfork's progress: as well as being a Group 1 winner, the Niarchos family-bred colt has a brilliant pedigree.
He is out of the Listed-winning Sadler's Wells mare Visions Of Clarity, a three-parts sister to star miler Spinning World from the family of Group 1 winners Chimes Of Freedom and Denon.
Pathfork will have his work cut out for him in the Arcadia Stakes, though, as his seven rivals include Mr Commons, the impressive winner of the Grade 2 Sir Beaufort Stakes over the course and distance in December, and 2009 Malibu Stakes winner M One Rifle.
Also entered in the race is another former Irish-trained runner, Willyconker, an Islanmore Stud-bred son of Pyrus who won two Dundalk nurseries for trainer Augustine Leahy in 2009.
