National Stakes renamed in memory of O'Brien

ONE of Ireland's top juvenile races, the National Stakes, will this year be run as the Vincent O'Brien Stakes, with Goffs continuing to sponsor the Group 1 event, held at The Curragh on September 15.

Vincent O'Brien's grandson, MV Magnier, said:  "We were delighted to hear that the National Stakes is to be renamed in Vincent's honour.  He won it no less than 15 times with the likes of Sir Ivor, Roberto and El Gran Senor so it couldn't be
more appropriate. It's also great news that Goffs are to continue their sponsorship of the race."

The sales company's chief executive  Henry Beeby added:  "It is an honour for Goffs to be associated with a race bearing the name of the legendary Vincent O'Brien. We are delighted to demonstrate our support of Irish racing at the highest level through this sponsorship.  The calibre of the race  and its timing in mid September is a perfect fit for Goffs, offering a fantastic platform for our promotion of the Orby Sale".
