Total Gallery: second Group 1 performer in eight days out of Diary

Total Gallery maintains Group 1 run of Diary

JUST over a week after Lady Darshaan narrowly failed to land the Fillies' Mile, her half-brother, Total Gallery, went one better to take the Prix de l'Abbaye.

Remarkably, the pair are just the second and third foals out of Diary, a Green Desert half-sister to Triumph Hurdle winner Made In Japan.

Total Gallery's victory also marked the first at Group 1 level for his sire, Namid, who was successful in the 2000 renewal of the Abbaye for John Oxx and Lady Clague.

From six crops of racing age, the son of Indian Ridge has sired 12 stakes winners. He stood the past season at Rathbarry Studin Ireland for €4,000.

Total Gallery's breeders, Michael Woodlock and Seamus Kennedy of Castle Field Stud, acquired Diary for 11,000gns at the 2005 Tattersalls February Sale.

The mare had been imported to Newmarket from Greece, where she had won three minor races after selling for just 7,000gns out of the Darley operation as a two-year-old.

Total Gallery failed to attract a bid at Goffs as a yearling and again failed to sell at the DBS Breeze Up the following year when bidding stalled at £32,000. Lady Darshaan, on the other hand, was knocked down to trainer Stan Moore for £24,000 at the same sale earlier this year.

Diary has a yearling colt and filly foal, both by High Chaparral.
