Grade 1 sire Pioneering sold to Brazil

PIONEERING, sire of Grade 1 winner Behaving Badly and a half-brother to Storm Cat, has been purchased by a group of Brazilian breeders to stand at Haras Castelo in Brazil, according to a report in Raia Leve.

The 16-year-old son of Mr Prospector has stood at Overbrook Farm in Kentucky since his retirement to stud in 1997. He currently commands a fee of $3,500.

Despite never standing for more than $7,500, the dual-winning Pioneering has sired 31 stakes winners including Grade 1 Santa Monica Handicap winner Behaving Badly and Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes winner Give Praise.

He has also been highly successful in South America, where he has been represented by Peruvian Horse of the Year Triano and Mexican Horse of the Year Canoa.
