Mon Mome half-brother tops Osarus January Sale

A HALF-BROTHER to Venetia Williams' talented chaser Mon Mome led the way at the Osarus January Sale in Pau, France, yesterday.

Already named Tokyo Javilex, the top lot is a two-year-old AQPS son of Sleeping Car and the New Target mare Etoile Du Lion. He was bought by Michael Deren, who has horses in training with Nigel Hawke, for €22,000.

Sleeping Car was also the sire of the second most expensive lot of the sale, the two-year-old filly Sleep By Starlight. A half-sister to the Grade 2 jumps winner Gray Steel, she was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for €16,000.

A winner of the Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris during his racing career, Sleeping Car has sired high-class jumps performers including Sleeping Night, Officier De Reserve and Sleeping Jack.

HIghflyer Bloodstock also purchased a son of Lavirco, sire of exciting novice hurdler Mikael D'Haguenet, for €15,000 and a son of young sire Kapgarde for €6,000.

Those horses who sold were in the minority, with only 22 of the 106 catalogued horses finding buyers. The aggregate, including private sales, was €178,000 with the average €7,045 and the median €24,750.
