Molecomb one-two for Exceed And Excel

Bet365 Molecomb Stakes (Group 3, 2yo) Goodwood 5f

Winner: Bungle Inthejungle

b c Exceed And Excel - Licence To Thrill (Wolfhound)

BUNGLE INTHEJUNGLE led home a one-two for Darley sire Exceed And Excel in Tuesday's Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The Mick Channon-trained colt flew home to just collar his paternal half-brother Morawij, a son of Prix du Bois third Sister Moonshine.

Bungle Inthejungle becomes the 17th Group winner sired by Exceed And Excel, an Australian-bred son of Danehill who stood at Dalham Hall Stud this year at a fee of £22,500.

Exceed And Excel was a brilliant sprinter in his native Australia but proved a disappointment on his sole start in Britain, when a well-beaten favourite in the 2004 July Cup.

Exceed And Excel's ability as a sire has crossed the continents better and he is the sire of four Group 1 winners - Excelebration and Margot Did in Europe and Helmet and Reward For Effort down under.

Bungle Inthejungle is a homebred for Chrysalis Records founder Chris Wright's Stratford Place Stud, and is a grandson of Wright's first racehorse purchase, Crime Of Passion.

Crime Of Passion won the Cherry Hinton Stakes and proved a fine foundation mare for Stratford Place Stud. She is the ancestress of stakes performers such as Borehan and Maltese Falcon.

Bungle Inthejungle's dam Licence To Thrill, a winning daughter of Wolfhound and Crime Of Passion, is also the dam of Listed winner Waveband and stakes-placed Classic Encounter, Group Therapy and The Thrill Is Gone.

Bungle Inthejungle was registered as not sold at 40,000gns at last year's Tattersalls October yearling sale.
