MODERN HISTORY (c Shamardal - Fatefully by Private Account)

Breeder: Darley Stud Management Co Ltd in Ireland

MODERN History kickstarted a potentially big weekend for Shamardal in style on Friday when landing the Prix Aymeri de Mauleon for Andre Fabre at the expense of Etive (by Elusive Quality).

The Darley homebred is the 28th stakes winner worldwide by leading young sire Shamardal, who will be represented in Saturday's 2,000 Guineas by Godolphin's first string Casamento.

Modern History is one of four winners out ofListed scorer Fatefully, who memorably formed part of Frankie Dettori's magnificent seven when taking the Rosemary Rated Stakes at Ascot in October 2006.

Fatefully has since excelled at stud; her first foal was the Group 3-placed Opportunist (by Shamardal's damsire Machiavellian) while her second was Nassau Stakes heroine Favourable Terms (by Selkirk). The daughter of Private Account, who is a half-sister to Canadian Group 2 winner Points Of Grace, has a two-year-old by Teofilo named Maimon.

The Jean-Claude Seroul homebred is the seventh stakes winner for Darley's Haras du Logis resident Slickly. The Group 1-winning son of Linamix currently heads this season's French leading sires' list with the winners of nearly €500,000 to his name.

Bred on the same Slickly - Johann Quatz cross as the Listed-placed Mariage Tardif, Splendido is the first foal out of multiple winner Allegrete.

Allegrete is a half-sister to two minor Flat winners and out of a winning half-sister to Arlington Million hero Dear Docter, a high-class globetrotter of the 1990s.
