GRADE 2 winner Zanjero has been retired to stand at Millennium Farms in Kentucky. The four-year-old son of Cherokee Run will command a fee of $10,000.
Purchased by Winchell Thoroughbreds for $700,000 as a yearling, Zanjero won or placed in 16 of 18 starts. The Steve Asmussen-trained colt registered his most notable win in the Grade 2 Kentucky Cup Classic but was also only beaten a quarter of a length by Dominican and Street Sense when third in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes.
He also ran second to Nobiz Like Shobiz as a two-year-old in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes.
Zanjero is the second foal out of the unraced A P Indy mare Chequered Flag, a half-sister to Grade 1-producing sire Storm Creek.
