Barbaro's dam La Ville Rouge aborts 2010 foal

BARBARO'S dam La Ville Rouge aborted her 2010 foal, which was believed to be a sister to the ill-fated Kentucky Derby winner, on Christmas Eve.

Headley Bell, managing partner of Mill Ridge Farm in Kentucky where the mare is boarded for her owners Roy and Gretchen Jackson, released the news one day after Barbaro's three-year-old brother Lentenor broke his maiden in impressive fashion in a 1m½f race at Gulfstream Park.

Bell said: "Nature can play a very cruel hand but Mr and Mrs Jackson intend on breeding La Ville Rouge back to [Barbaro's sire] Dynaformer this year and hope for the best."

La Ville Rouge, a Grade 3-placed daughter of Carson City, gave birth to another brother to Barbaro last March.
