MIKHAIL Glinka saw the two mile trip of the Queen's Vase out in tenacious style to deny his paternal half-brother Theology by a nostril.

Total Command, a brother to Yorkshire Oaks heroine Quiff and son of 1,000 Guineas winner Wince, was two-and-a-half lengths back in third.

Mikhail Glinka's dam, Lady Karr, a minor winner over 1m3f for Mark Johnston, was unsold for 36,000gns as a three-year-old. However, when she came up for sale a year later, it was as asister to the unbeaten Group 1-winning two-year-old Sir Percy which consequently pushed her value up to 120,000gns.

London Thoroughbred Services secured her that day and a year later resold her for 700,000gns to Badgers Bloodstock, six months after Sir Percy had won the Derby.

The foal she was carrying at the time of that sale was Mikhail Glinka, whom Timmy Hyde snapped up for 250,000gns at the following year's foal sales.

Since then, there has been an additional update to the family through the Group 3 winner Grace O'Malley, a daughter of Lady Karr's sister, Lionne.

Lady Karr has a two-year-old sister to Mikhail Glinka and a yearling colt by Montjeu.
