Impressive Grade 2
win for Lavirco gelding
MIKAEL d'Haguenet posted an impressive win for trainer Willie Mullins in the Goffs Slaney Novice Hurdle at Naas on Sunday, winning easily by three and a half lengths from Western Charmer.
The five-year-old has now won his last three starts and consequently has been cut to 5/1 for the Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Bred by Martine Lelong in France, Mikael d'Haguenet is the highest RPR-rated jumps performer by the Deutsches Derby and Europa Preis winner Lavirco. The son of Konigsstuhl, who started his stud career at Gestut Fahrhof in Germany, has also been represented by Imperial Cup Hurdle second Fenix, and has enjoyed success on the Flat as the sire of Group 2 winners Fight Club and Lolita.
Lavirco was transferred to the French National Stud in 2002, under whose banner he will stand for €2,200 in 2009.
Mikael d'Haguenet is the third jumps winner out of Fleur d'Haguenet following Alesko d'Haguenet, a son of Jeunne Homme who won in France in April, and Mika d'Haguenet, a son of Epervier Bleu who won in France last year.
Fleur d'Haguenet was placed three times in 15 starts for owner and breeder Gaston Lelong in France. The daughter of Dark Stone is a sister to Barzy d'Haguenet, a winner of ten races on the Flat and over jumps including the Listed Prix Phil Drake.
Fleur d'Haguenet has a three-year-old brother to Mikael d'Haguenet named Kevin d'Haguenet.
