Listed double for Whipper at Saint-Cloud

BALLYLINCH Stud's second-season sire Whipper was in the limelight at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday after siring two of the card's Listed winners.

Whip And Win brought up the first leg of the double when seeing off Listed-placed Nova Hawk by a length in the 1m Prix Isonomy for two-year-old fillies.

The filly - saddled by Whipper's trainer Robert Collet - looks a fine Classic prospect for next year, having now won three of her seven starts as well as finishing a highly unlucky-in-running fourth in the Group 3 Prix Miesque.

Whip And Win is the first foal produced by Prix Robert Papin runner-up Queensalsa. Bred by Mrs Christian Wingtans and the Vidal family, she was unsold at €300,000 at last year's Arqana August yearling sale and now races for her breeders.

Courchevel completed the Listed double for Whipper when scoring by a neck over the Ralph Beckett-trained Agony And Ecstasy in the 7f Prix Ceres for three-year-old fillies.

Courchevel is also trained by Collet, and had won a conditions race at Saint-Cloud by six lengths on her last start.

Bred by Kilfrush and Waterside Studs out of Grade 1 E P Taylor Stakes heroine Choc Ice, Courchevel is a half-sister to two other stakes winners: five-year-old entire Khateeb, winner of the Listed Pomfret Stakes, and four-year-old colt Chock A Block, winner of the Listed Godolphin Stakes.

Dual Group 1 winner Whipper, an immaculately bred Miesque's Son three-parts brother to Divine Proportions, stood in 2010 at Ballylinch Stud in County Kilkenny, at a fee of €10,000.
