Needwood Blade: the son of Pivotal will continue his stud career in Sweden

Needwood Blade transferred to Sweden

SECOND-SEASON sire Needwood Blade has been transferred from Mickley Stud in Shrophire to stand at Christer Schildt's Ljungstorps Stud in Sweden next year in a dealbrokered by Swedish bloodstock agent Christer Ljung.

Among the best progeny sired by the Rathbarry Stud-owned son of Pivotal are multiple winners Smalljohn, Blades Princess and First Blade. The 11-year-old, who stood his first season at Helshaw Grange Stud, was advertised at a fee of £3,000 this year.

Needwood Blade rose through the handicapping ranks to become a high-class sprinter for trainer Bryan McMahon, with his biggest victory coming at the expenseof Bahamian Pirate in the Palace House Stakes. He concluded his career in the care of Patrick Gallagher in the US, where he landed the Grade 3 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Handicap.
