Melbourne Cup winner Americain to Calumet

MELBOURNE Cup winner Americain will stand the 2013 northern hemisphere season at Calumet Farm in Kentucky.

The six-year-old son of Dynaformer was retired earlier this month following his run in the Melbourne Cup.

Calumet has purchased a 50 per cent share in Americain from Gerry and Val Ryan and Kevin and Coleen Bamford, in whose colours he won the 2010 Melbourne and Geelong Cups. His fee will be set at a later date.

Negotiations are also in progress for Americain to shuttle to Australia.

Americain was also a high-class performer in France for Alain de Royer-Dupre, winning the Group 2 Prix Kergolay and Group 2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.

In all, he won 11 of 34 starts and the equivalent of nearly $5.7 million in prize-money. He is out of America, a Group 2-winning Arazi half-sister to Group 2 winner Majorien.
