The Alan King-trained seven-year-old, a former runner-up in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and winner of the Haydock Champion Hurdle Trial, put in a clean round of jumping and stayed on well to hold off a late challenge from Captain Chris (by King's Theatre).
Medermit was bred in Franceby Philippe Gasdoue out of Miss D'Hermite, a daughter of Solicitor.
He provides a boost for his sire Medaaly, a 17-year-old son of Highest Honor and half-brother to Charnwood Forest from the family of Dubai Millennium who landed the 1996 Racing Post Trophy.
Medaaly now stands at Badger Hill Stud in County Galway, having originally retired to stud in France and later having stood in South Africa.
Medaaly's other jumping stars include smart 2m hurdler/chaser Nyrche, Coral Cup and Grade 1 novice chase winner Sky's The Limit and French Grade 1-winning hurdler Shekira.
