A DAUGHTER of Medaglia d'Oro topped a strong opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's April Spring Sale of Two-year-olds in Training in Florida on Monday when selling to Southwind Stables for $400,000.

Consigned by Niall Brennan, the filly is out of the stakes-winning Capote mare Bashful Charmer and a half sister to stakes winnerSaturday's Child.

The day's trading returned gains across-the-board with 179 horses selling for a total of $7,403,000, up 31 per cent from last year when 199 lots were sold. The average leapt 45 per cent to $41,358 while the median rose 25 per cent to $25,000. The clearance rate also improved, rising from 73 per cent to 77 per cent.

The dearest colt of the day was a son of Harlan's Holiday, who sold for $285,000 to Deborah Easter, acting on behalf of Jon and Sarah Kelly. Wavertree Stables consigned the colt, who is out of the Indian Charlie mare West Indian.

The sale continues its four-day run on Tuesday.
