Mastercraftsman has first foals on the ground

SATURDAY saw the arrival of the first two foals by four-time Group 1 winner Mastercraftsman - one a filly, the other a colt.

The filly, a bay, was produced by dual South African Group 2 winner Cover Look at Newsells Park Stud. The daughter of Fort Wood has already produced Sagaro Stakes winner Shipmaster.

Newsells' racing manager Gary Coffey described the foal as "a very neat individual with excellentlimbs."

Woodcote Stud welcomed the first Mastercraftsman colt foal, a son of Group 3 Prix de Flore winner Audacieuse.

Woodcote's Barry Reilly said: "The foal is probably the nicest out of the mare, he is strong, correct and has plenty of bone." Audacieuse is a Rainbow Quest half-sister to Waiter's Dream.

Mastercraftsman, a son of Danehill Dancer from the family of top US sires Broad Brush and Capote, won the Phoenix and National Stakes at two and in the following season took his Group 1 tally to four in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.

He stands at Coolmore at a fee of €17,500 this season.
