Grade 1 winner Monba to stand in Pennsylvania

LAST year's Blue Grass Stakes winner Monba has been sold and will commence his stallion career in 2010 at Mike Jester's Penn Ridge Farms near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The four-year-old son of Maria's Mon was a close fourth in the CashCall Futurity at two, and beat the likes of Cowboy Cal, Visionaire and Pyro when scoring in the Blue Grass Stakes in the following season.

His best run this year came when beaten into fourth, just under two lengths behind the winner Einstein, in the Santa Anita Handicap inMarch.

The Todd Pletcher-trained colt was bred by Mill Ridge Farm and Jamm Ltd out of the winning Easy Goer mare Hamba, a half-sister to Graded stakes winners Silent Account and Secret Hello.

Jester said: "We are thrilled to offer Monba to Pennsylvania breeders in a unique syndicate.

"While primarily known for his exciting win in the Blue Grass Stakes, Monba also won his first two stats as a two-year-old, defeating subsequent Grade 1 winner Macho Again at Churchill Downs on dirt.

"He is also from the family of successful sires Secret Hello and Hadif and the classic Hal Price Headley family of Alcibiades."
