Alix Road sells for €310,000 at Arqana

ALIX ROAD, who ran third in the Prix Saint-Alary two years ago, got the Arqana Decemer Breeding Stock Sale off to a strong start when knocked down for €310,000 to Intercontinental Bloodstock.

Offered out of training as a racing or broodmare prospect by Haras des Capucines, the daughter of Linamix is a half-sister to Listed winner Fils de Viane.

"She's been bought on behalf of Jean-Etienne Dubois of Haras de la Perrier," said the winning bidder, Xavier Bozo. "I don't know whether she will race again. She's got good form and I like the fact she's by Linamix."

Maree Basse to race in US

Moments later, Fred Seitz paid €120,000 for the Listed-placed Maree Basse on behalf of his family's Kentucky-based Brookdale Farm. The three-year-old daughter of Royal Applause is likely to continue her racing career in the US.

Among the British and Irish buyers active during the opening hour was Hugo Merry, who purchased Massarossa, a stakes-producing half-sister to Listed winner Tessa Reef from the family of the great Miesque, for €115,000 on behalf of an undisclosed client. The 13-year-old daughter of Mr Prospector is in foal to Dylan Thomas.

"She was a lovely mare who has already bred a stakes winner," said Merry. "She's also from one of the best familiesin the stud book."

Mags O' Toole later signed for the Group 3-placed Mer De Corail, who cost €115,000. The daughter of Sadler's Wells is out of champion Miss Tahiti and is in foal to Dashing Blade.
