Japanese star makes an immediate classic Impact

JAPANESE superstar Deep Impact produced a Classic winner from his first crop of runners when his daughter Marcellina was victorious in  the Oka Sho, the Japanese 1,000 Guineas.

The Shadai stallion had already sired a European stakes winner with his first three-year-olds when Barocci won the Listed Prix Omnium at Saint-Cloud on March 31.

The son of Sunday Silence sired a Japanese Grade 3 winner, Danon Ballade, on Christmas Day last year and his 2011 runners includeTosen R, winner of a Grade 3 turf race at Kyoto in February.

Marcellina is out of the Marjo mare Marbye, the champion older mare in Italy in 2004.
