Great Palm moves to UK

NUNSTAINTON Stud in County Durham has secured the services of dual-purpose sire Great Palm this season. The 20-year-old son of Manila has stood the past seven seasons at Arctic Tack Stud in Ireland.

Great Palm has sired useful winners under both codes including the Flat stakes performers Tindari Maria and Great Blood and jumpers such as this month's Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle runner-up Donnas Palm and David Pipe's unbeaten Great Endeavour.

A stint at Haras d'Etreham in France also yielded the smart French jumpers Rock And Palm, Great Love and Grande Bleu.

Great Palm, who is a half-brother to Breeders' Cup Classic winner Black Tie Affair, was competitive with the best of his generation for trainer Paul Cole, taking the Group 1 Premio Presidente Della Repubblica and the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano. He also ran second in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.

Great Palm will stand alongside Dapper, a Hernando half-brother to the Group 1-winning pair Alborada and Albanova, at Nunstainton.
