Maktoums still quiet on day three of Deauville

Read Nancy Sexton's blog from Deauville to see how day three of the Arqana August yearling sale unfolded

CONTINUED muted activity by the Maktoum family during the third session of the Arqana August Sale in Deauville appeared to make little negative impact, as a number of French trainers took the opportunity to replenish their strings.

Purchases made by Carlos Lerner, Robert Collet, Francois Rohaut, Pascal Bary and Jean-Claude Rouget provided further evidence of the lure of French premiums and resulting stability of the domestic market - seven of the nine lots bought by that quartet of trainers during the early hours were eligible.

Encouragingly, given the fragility of the market, there were cases of buyers stretching above their budget. They included Maisons-Laffitte-based trainer Carlos Lerner, who was prepared to go above his original mark of €100,000 when paying €130,000 for a High Chaparral colt from Haras des Capucines.
