Major share bought in Pin Oak sire Cowboy Cal

A SIGNIFICANT interest in triple Grade 2 winner Cowboy Cal has been bought by American Ron Winchell.

Cowboy Cal, who is by Giant's Causeway and out of Texas Tammy, won or was placed in 11 stakes-races in three seasons of racing.

This year he finished his second stud season standing at Josephine Abercrombie's Pin Oak Stud in Kentucky.  After seeing the quality of the stallions first crop of foals, Ron Winchell has decided to purchase part of Cowboy Cal from Janice McNair's Magnolia Racing LLC.

Robert and Janice McNair, who bred and raced Cowboy Cal, were delighted about the new investment. Robert McNair said:  "Getting a partner with the expertise and experience of Ron Winchell, coupled with our successful, longtime relationship with Josephine Abercrombie, will give Cowboy Cal the best possible opportunity to make it as a top sire. We feel Cowboy Cal has all the attributes to be Pin Oak's next big success."

He stud fee for 2012 is set at $7,500.
