Major increases at OBS Winter Mixed Sale
THE OBS Winter Mixed Sale in Ocala, Florida, maintained the buoyant trend seen at recent American breeding stock salesby ending its two-day run on Wednesday with significant increases across-the-board.
The aggregate rose 52 per cent to $3,616,500 for 319 of 434 horses offered sold. The average leapt 47 per cent to $11,337 while the median grew by a third to $6,000.
The clearance rate also improved slightly, dropping from 30 per cent to 26.5 per cent.
A contributory factor to the rise in numbers was the inaugural horses of racing age section which generated $1,033,200 in gross for 74 horses sold. They included the sale-topper Lady Clara, who sold for $240,000 to Hardacre Farm.
The open session on the final day saw 174 horses sell for a total of $1,316,300, up 43.5 per cent despite a nine per cent decrease in the number sold. The average rose 58 per cent to $7,565 while the median soared 70 per cent to $4,850.
Leading sire Congrats provided the day's topper in a colt out of the Royal Academy mare Summer School, who sold for$90,000 to Bortolazzo Stable.
Consigned by Stroud's Lane Farm, the colt is from the further family of Grade 2 winner Mud Route.
