Smooth Operator gives Big Shuffle back-to-back French Group 2 success

GERMAN challenger Smooth Operator was the smooth winner of the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte on Tuesday. He beat the highly-touted Dalghar, a half-brother to Dalakhani and Daylami, by two lengths.

Bred and trained by Mario Hofer, Smooth Operator is by veteran German sire Big Shuffle. The 24-year-old son of Super Concorde, who stands at Gestüt Auenquelle, was also the sire of 2007 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte winner Pomellato.

Big Shuffle is one of the most successful sires capable of transmitting speed to his offspring currently at stud in Germany. His best runners include 6f Group 2 winner Auenklang and King George Stakes winner Agnetha.

This year he was represented by the German 2,000 Guineas winner Precious Boy.

Smooth Operator has nowwon his last three runs. His other victories came in the Listed Krominus-Rennen and the Group 3 Prix Eclipse.
