Major Cadeaux retires
to Bearstone Stud

GROUP 2-winning miler Major Cadeaux has been retired from racing and will stand at Terry Holdcroft'sBearstone Stud in Shropshire next season. A stud fee will be announced at a later date.

As revealed by the Racing Post in August, the five-year-old son of Cadeaux Genereux was acquired by Holdcroft as a stallion prospect and transferred to Richard Fahey. His retirement comes four days after he ran fifth to Gladiatorus in the Premio Vittorio di Capua at San Siro.

Major Cadeaux spent the majority of his racing career under the care of Richard Hannon, for whom he won four races including the Group 2 bet365 Mile, Group 3 John O'Gaunt Stakes and Group 3 Greenham Stakes, in which he defeated Middle Park Stakes winner Dutch Art by three-and-a-half lengths.

He also broke his maiden first time out over 6f in a competitive maiden at Newbury before running a close second in the Coventry Stakes to Hellvelyn with the likes of Tariq, Captain Marvelous and Holy Roman Emperor in arrears.

Other notable runs include third placings in both the Sussex Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois.

"We are delighted to be bringing such a high-class son of a highly successful stallion to Bearstone Stud," said Holdcroft. "He is a very impressive looking horse who went very close to being a Royal Ascot two-year-old winner and was undoubtedly one of the best milers of his generation.

"His CV should certainly appeal to breeders - a top-class racehorse by a proven sire of sires, the most wonderful temperamant and free of Northern Dancer blood."

By the same sire as successful stallion Bahamian Bounty, Major Cadeaux is out of the placed Woodman mare Maine Lobster, a daughter of Grade 1 winner Capades.
