Lateral on the move from Germany to South Africa

HOT on the heels of the German national football team excelling in their first World Cup match in Durban, another German traveller will be hoping for success in South Africa this year.

Gestüt Fährhof resident Lateral will stand the forthcoming southern-hemisphere season at Andreas Jacobs' Maine Chance Farms in the country's Cape Province.

Lateral, a seven-year-old son of Singspiel, won six of his ten starts, including the Group 1 Gran Criterium at two. An easy six-length victory in the Group 2 Europa-Meile sealed champion German miler honours at three.

Having retired to Fährhof in 2008, Lateral's first offspring are yearlings. He joins Silvano, another Fährhof-South Africa shuttler, and Black Minnaloushe on the Maine Chance roster.
