Newsells-bound Nathaniel set for Eclipse

LAST season's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Nathaniel makes his four-year-old debut in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown today.

It will be the John Gosden-trained colt's first run since being part-purchased by Newsells Park Stud earlier this year.

Nathaniel is set to retire next year to the Hertfordshire-based operation, where he will stand alongside Mount Nelson, whose finest hour came when winning the Eclipse in 2008, and dual King's Stand Stakes winner Equiano.

Nathaniel bids to become the sixth Group 1 winner of the year by his outstanding sire Galileo, after Frankel (Lockinge, Queen Anne Stakes), Was (Oaks), Golden Lilac (Prix d'Ispahan), Niwot (Sydney Cup) and Igugu (J&B Met).

Nathaniel is one of eight stakes winners out of 1996 Musidora Stakes winner Magnificient Style. His siblings include Yorkshire Cup winner Percussionist, Lancashire Oaks winner Playful Act and last month's Ballymacoll Stud Stakes winner Great Heavens, who bids to become the dam's second Lancashire Oaks winner at Haydock today.
