Nathaniel could make it a Magnificient seven

A TOP-TWO finish in today’s Group 3 MBNA Chester Vase would make Nathaniel the seventh black-type performer produced by his brilliant dam, Magnificient Style.

The John Gosden-trained colt is by Galileo and is thus a three-parts brother to three of Magnificient Style’s black-type performers, who are by Galileo’s sire Sadler’s Wells: Yorkshire Cup winner Percussionist; Fillies Mile heroine Playful Act and dual US Grade 3 scorer Changing Skies.

He is also slightly more closely related than half-brother to two of the dam’s other stakes performers, as they are by sons of Sadler’s Wells’ close relative Nureyev: Echoes In Eternity, by Spinning World, who won the Sun Chariot and Park Hill Stakes, and Petara Bay, by Peintre Celebre, who scored in the Feilden Stakes.

Magnificient Style’s sixth previous black-type performer is Stylelistick, by Storm Cat and a dual Listed winner at Keeneland. In total, Magnificient Style has produced nine winners from ten known foals.

A Silver Hawk half-sister to Grade 1 Charles H Strub Stakes winner Siberian Summer, Magnificient Style was trained by Henry Cecil to win the 1996 Musidora Stakes for her owner-breeder, Mahmoud Fustok’s Buckram Oak Farm.

The late Robert Sangster bought Magnificient Style after her racing career but ina reduction of his Swettenham Stud breeding stock in 2007, she was acquired by Lady Rothschild’s Kincorth Investments.

Nathaniel is Kincorth Investments’ first foal out of the mare. They have also bred a two-year-old sister to Nathaniel called Great Heavens. Weatherbys records the dam as barren to Oasis Dream in 2010 and as having been covered by the same sire last year.
