Magnificient producer set to visit Galileo
MAGNIFICIENT STYLE, dam of last year's Group 1 winners Nathaniel and Great Heavens, will return to their sire Galileo this spring.
The daughter of Silver Hawk has been an outstanding broodmare for owner Lady Rothschild, who purchased the Group 3 winner privately from the Sangster family's Swettenham Stud dispersal in 2007.
In foal to Galileo at the time of purchase, Magnificient Style's first produce for the Rothschild family was King George and Eclipse winner Nathaniel.
A second trip to the Coolmore resident resulted in last year's Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens.
Currently in foal to Australian champion sire Fastnet Rock and due in April, Magnificient Style also has a juvenile colt by Oasis Dream called Throne Room.
James Wigan, who manages the bloodstock interests of the Rothschild family, said: "The pairing is not too adventurous, but it's proven. We've been off and tried other things, and we're pleased with what we've got, but she's getting older now.
"Throne Room is a nice-looking colt and moves well. He's in pre-training with Malcolm Bastard, who we send all our horses to, before they go to John Gosden."
Nathaniel, who begins his stallion career at Newsells Park Stud this year, will be visited by Spinning Queen, bought by Lady Rothschild for 3 million guineas at Tattersalls in 2006 after winning the Sun Chariot Stakes, in the coming months.
"It's nice to send him a Group 1-winning mare who produced a useful three-year-old filly in Gallipot [a Listed winner]. She's by Galileo, so Nathaniel was an obvious choice."
Great Heavens is also headed for the paddocks, with a first covering by Dansili lined up.
"Dansili is a horse I've always been fond of as he's a proven sire - and there's nothing wrong with the Danehill-Galileo cross!"
Magical Romance, a record-breaking purchase by the Rothschild family when knocked down for 4.6m gns at the Tattersalls December mares sale in 2006, will visit Raven's Pass this season.
"He had a very good season and will suit her on conformation as he's a big, sturdy build," said Wigan.
Magical Romance is in foal to Shamardal. Wigan said: "Shamardal is different from what she's been to before and will provide good size and substance. Giant's Causeway has already done well with the line."
The Danehill Dancer mare Strut will return to Cheveley Park Stud to be covered by Medicean following success on the track for Mince, the product of the pair's last meeting.
The Roger Charlton-trained filly capped an excellent 2012 with victory in Ascot's Group 3 Bengough Stakes, a fifth win from eight starts during the season.
