'Magnificent' stallion
Rahy dies aged 26

RAHY, sire of Group 1 performers Fantastic Light, Noverre, Strong Suit and Rio De La Plata among others, has died aged 26.

The son of Blushing Groom was described as "one of the most important stallions we've ever had," by President Case Clay of Three Chimneys Stud in Kentucky, where Rahy had stood for 19 years.

Along with siring 13 Group/Grade 1 winners and 91 Stakes winners, Rahy, who stood at $100,000 during his peak years, was also the broodmare sire of stars such as Giant's Causeway,Rutherienne and Life At Ten. His offspring accumulated nearly $97 million worldwide.

"Rahy was a cornerstone in the development of Three Chimneys," said Three Chimneys owner Robert Clay, who revealed that Rahy had died due to the infirmities of old age.

"He was a little horse with a lot of heart. We owe him so much. We will be forever grateful to Sheikh Maktoum for giving us the opportunity to stand Rahy, and to the Maktoum family for partnering with us in developing his magnificent stud career."

Rahy, who raced in Europe for Maktoum Al Maktoum and Sir Michael Stoute before being transferred to the USA as a four-year-old, had been pensioned in 2009 due to declining fertility.
