Magic Millions Perth ends with average up

THE Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale concluded on Sunday, with a smaller catalogue and strong support from Malaysianand Singapore buyers contributing to a 43 per cent increase in average.

At the end of the four-day sale, 115 lots were sold for turnover of A$836,500 (£464,500, €530,500) and an average of A$7,274 (£4,000,€4,600), compared with 174 horses changing hands for A$887,050 (£490,000, €563,000) for an average of A$5,098 (£2,800, €3,200) in 2009.

Malaysian champion trainer K. L. Chong was the leading buyer on Sunday, spending A$86,000 on seven lots including the A$34,000 joint session-topper, a colt by Danehill stallion Untouchable.

Throughout the course of the week Chong spent A$603,000 on 17 lots.

The other top lot was a Hartley's Spirit colt sold to trainer Brent Larsson.
