Lagardere blood prevails in Prix Miss Satamixa
Prix Miss Satamixa (Listed), Deauville
4yo+ fillies and mares, 7½f
LOVE QUEEN (4yo gr f Val Royal - Lone Spectre,
Breeder: Ecurie Skymarc Farm in Ireland
EUROPE'S first Flat stakes race of 2011, Friday's Listed Prix Miss Satamixa, is named in honour of the late Jean-Luc Lagardere's Prix Jacques le Marois winner of 1995 – so it was apt that another filly carrying Lagardere blood prevailed.
The Valerie Dissaux-trained Love Queen won by a neck from Rada Angel, reversing form from the Listed Prix Cered at Saint-Cloud in November, when Love Queen was one and a half lengths behind third-placed Rada Angel in fourth.
Love Queen is by the deceased Val Royal, who was bred by Lagardere and won the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano carrying his colours, before shipping to America where he won the Breeders' Cup Mile for David Milch.
Val Royal's best son, Anglo-Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel, has his first crop of juveniles on the ground this year.
Love Queen's dam is Lone Spectre, herself a daughter of another stallion closely associated with Lagardere – Linamix.
Linamix won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains for his owner-breeder Lagardere, and Lagardere bred numerous top-class horses from him, including Cherry Mix, Fair Mix, Fragrant Mix, Sagamix, Slickly – and Miss Satamixa.
Love Queen was bred by Ecurie Skymarc Farm and sold as a foal for €35,000 at the 2007 Arqana December sale. She is owned by Gerard Augustin Normand, famous for campaigning and standing Prix du Jockey Club hero Le Havre.
